Obituary for Jan Michael DufekJan was born on August 7th, l95l to Alice and Harry Dufek of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He attended West Side Elementary School and Sturgeon Bay High School until he was a Junior. In 1969, he moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona with his family and was in the first class to graduate from Lake Havasu High School in 1970.He became interested in ham radio and, at age 13, was the youngest licensed ham radio operator in Wisconsin. He made friends across the nation via his ham set and was a regular member of the Ham Radio Club for several years in Havasu until the time required to run his business limited his participation.Jan attended Arizona Western College in Yuma Arizona, and then worked for the local telephone company, cable company and a businessman in Havasu who owned a television repair shop. He also repaired televisions and other electronic devices on his own and landed a job as a disc jockey for a brief stint at radio station KAAA in Kingman, Arizona. In 1976, Jan opened his own business called, "Tower Communications." In the early years he pre-wired many of the houses in Havasu and erected antennas on them-many are still standing. Jan eventually branched out into setting up home entertainment, satellite and cell telephone systems. In short, if no one else in the city could solve a problem related to electronics, Jan was able to get the job done. His work took him all over Arizona and beyond. He did jobs in Kingman, Parker, Bullhead City and even ventured into cities in California. Jan also enjoyed the internet and had many pen pals in different parts of the country. He was preceded in death by his father Harry Dufek in 1985. He is survived by his mother Alice Dufek, Lake Havasu City; his sons Barry and Roy in Phoenix, Arizona; his brother Gary and wife Linda in Tucson, Arizona, his brother Lon and wife Amy in Tigard, Oregon; sister Joy and husband Cliff in Winthrop, Washington, and his brother Todd and wife Michelle in Phoenix, Arizona and by his employees Pat Adkins, Gene Adkins and Chris Martin.Viewing will be at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, September 24th.
