Obituary of Vincent SCOTELLARO
Please share a memory of Vincent to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vincent James Scotellaro was born on March 18, 1924, to Marietta Ursone Scotellaro and Thomas Scotellaro. He was one of six children. At a very early age, he set out on the streets of the Bronx with his trusty shoeshine box. He took much pride in working the cloth to deliver a high luster shine to each of his customers. Some years later he met and married Linda Abeelahad and they had a son together named Robert. In 1946 he became known as Ozone Park's A.A. battler as he entered the boxing arena. The "Ozone Parker" turned in fine performances in the opening chapter of his career, but unfortunately in one particular match, he severely injured his ear, abruptly ending his time in the ring. He later moved on to employment at the Canada Dry Manufacturing Plant in New York City until his move to Chicago in 1956. It was there that he married Donata Carmella (Donatelli) and was busy raising their two children, Rosemarie Anne and Vincent Anthony. During this time and for 15 years, he was employed as a Civil Engineer with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. His final employment before retirement was as head of the bridge crew inspection team for the Illinois Department of Transportation. From Chicago his life then took him to Lake Havasu City in the summer of 1985. He resumed his lifetime hobby of being a pigeon fancier of a particular breed that originated in Holland, known as Leen Boers Hen. As he raised his pigeons mainly for racing enjoyment, in 1989 he lobbied our local government to organize a pigeon club, which resulted in a feature article in our local newspaper. On October 29, 1994, he married Carmella Marie Kish at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. In attendance were many family members and friends who partook in the joyous celebration of finding love again in their golden years. Sometime later, Vincent deemed it a privilege to serve his church in an usher capacity and he was able to commit to this honor until 2003.Before the onset of Alzheimer's, Vince was known to many Lake Havasu City residents and neighbors as the friendly "walking man". He enjoyed taking his walks, offering up a friendly greeting and stopping to chat with neighbors. Few could resist his charm and the mischievous gleam in his eyes that was always present.Vincent is survived by his wife Carmella; sons Robert (Diana), Vincent Anthony (Kathy); daughter Rosemarie Anne (Jeff Blenner) and Allen Karol. Vincent has one grandson, Anthony and three granddaughters, Samantha, Michelle and Katherine Sara Scotellaro. He is also survived by his stepson George Paul Kish (Deborah) and LaDonna; Step grandson Timothy (Ann); his step granddaughter Brianne; three great grandsons, Evan, Alex, Jackson and one step granddaughter Lydia. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Jimmy".Private memorial services will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made in Vincent's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 1028 E McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ, 85006 and New Hope Hospice, , 500 N Lake Havasu Ave #B106, Lake Havasu City, AZ, 86403.Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com Arrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
