Aloysious "Al" Bernard McAvan passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at Lakeview Terrace Memory Care Residence in Lake Havasu City. He was born in Salisbury, MO on April 15, 1922 to Valentine and Antoinette Filla. He was the husband of Frances Holms, deceased and Lois Diana McAvan whom he married on August 2, 1968.During World War II, Al served in the U.S. Third Air Force. After his discharge he was employed by Douglas Aircraft Co. for 30 years as a quality assurance inspector and in the latter part of these years as Final Inspector, making sure that the aircraft met all of the purchaser's requirements before delivery. He met many interesting people from different countries during this time.After retirement Al and his wife moved permanently into the vacation home they'd enjoy for many years in Bullhead City and five years later into a larger home in Lake Havasu. They traveled over most of the United States and parts of Alaska and Canada in their motor home. They enjoyed campouts with the Colorado River Ramblers for several years and also boating on the Colorado River.Al was member of the Knights of Columbus in Lake Havasu and American Legion Post 60 in Laughlin, NV.Al is survived by his wife, Diana; daughter Linda Bouvier and husband Donald; son Kenneth McAvan; grandsons, Christopher Bowles and wife Trisha, David Arthur Bowles, Beau Michael Bowles, Troy J. McAvan and also granddaughter Lisa Dalson and husband Jeffrey; great grandsons Richard Scott Fell, Nicolas Matthew Bowles, Andrew McAvan and great granddaughter Jasmine McAvan.A Rosary will be said on Friday, December 3, 2010, 1:00 PM at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church followed by the Memorial Mass at 1:30 PM. Father Chauncey Winkler will offer words of comfort and inspiration. Prior to the Rosary the VFW Post 9401 will hold full military honors at 12:45 PM.The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made to Lake View Terrace, 120 N. Lake Havasu Ave., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403 or New Hope Hospice of Lake Havasu City, 500 N.
