Jesse James MaddaloneOct. 22, 1918 to Jan. 13, 2011Jesse James Maddalone was born to James Joseph and Ida (Puckett) Maddalone in Aspen, Colorado on October 22, 1918. His father James (locally known as Buckshot Maddalone) mined silver in many local mines. Jesse was one of ten children. A graduate of Aspen High School, he later married Esther Thorpe. They with their four children; Jesse Jr., Daniel, Gerald, and Marcia lived in Aspen. In his later years he lived with his second wife Annie in Grand Junction and wintered in Lake Havasu.He was a veteran and served in the Army in the Philippines in World War II. He was superintendent of concrete for Peter Kiewit constructing a large airbase in Thule Greenland. A long standing member of the American Legion and the Elks club, he held high office in both organizations. He was instrumental in founding an Elks scholarship program that has grown to provide assistance to many graduates of the Roaring Fork Valley. He was also a member of the Eagles. He was a retired Aspen Volunteer Fire fighter.He and his family lived in Aspen for many years; Jesse was the long time owner of the Locals Corner (Conoco Station) and the mobile home park in Aspen. The station was a constant hub of activity and he was always there to help anyone who needed it. Jesse never knew a stranger. He was quick to flirt as all the girls will tell you. He was fun and full of life with a twinkle in his eye. He loved many and many loved him. Family was very important to him. He was also fond of his two miniature toy poodles, Pepper and Molly. He will be remembered as a good natured, generous, and active man who was civic minded and a good friend to those who knew him.He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Joseph, Anthony, James, Angelina, Thomas (Stogie), Frances, Mary, and Charles; his two sons, Daniel and Gerald and his wife Esther; his grandsons Nathan and Travis and granddaughter Jessica.He is survived by his son Jesse Jr. (Jody); his daughter Marcia (Richard), and his wife Annie; sister Ida; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and many other family and friends.We will miss him.Memorial services pending.Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com Arrangements were made by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
