Dearest Brenda and family,
My heart aches with love and adoration for you all. Your Dad was the preacher at Madison Park Christian Church when I was a teenager. He taught me to wash a car when I was 15, (your family car). You and I, Brenda were very good at making impromptu pizzas whenever I was fortunate enough to spend time at your house. I have missed our good times over the years and cherished the memories. Your Mother was my inspiration, a woman of grace, beauty and loving warmth. Her voice thrilled me to my bones when she led us in choir practice and I sing because she taught me to raise my voice in melodious notes for all to hear. I have missed her so very much over the years but have been so grateful that she was a part of my life. I have often wondered about my lovely church family from so long ago. Out of the clear blue sky I googled your Dad's name, thinking "wouldn't it be wonderful to see if I could reconnect with your family". Low and behold, there was your Dad's heavenly face looking out of my computer at me... so sad his physical presence has passed but at peace knowing he will always be with me, just as his lovely Martha has been with me in spirit and held deep in my soul. Please know that I have loved you all for a very long time and reach out to me if you see this message; I would be so happy to hear from you. Take good care. In loving memory and concern, Martha Winfield, formerly of Quincy, IL and currently of Ocala, FL.

Thinking of you all this weekend as you celebrate the life of an incredible servant of God and father. Thank you for sharing him with us in Catlin back in the day. Tegucigalpa will never be the same because of your mom and him, and I will never forget that name. :)
Hugs to all,
Pam

I remember one of the first times I met Bob. He was with you, Brenda, convalescing after a complicated gall bladder surgery. I remember having discussions about how he wasn't one of the most compliant patients, something that worried his health care professional daughter. (I'm saying that mildly out of respect. He took his Coumadin irregularly and failed to monitor his labs.) Brenda, that was years ago and maybe he did manage his medical care better than we thought. Look at his life and how much he accomplished after that! He was a strong-willed man with the biggest heart. I believe it's not been that long since you had to explain to him that he couldn't fix the roof by himself. That spirit served him well. He lived the life he wanted to and loved and was loved by so many people on his journey. His life story is a beautiful expression of God's love and grace. I'm thankful his love and friendship as is all of our family. He always treated me like I was part of his family. I know he lives on. I've seen his smile and his kindness and joy in your face, Brenda. What a blessing he was and will always be.

Although I never met this good man, I've known his son Rick, who is a truly good and kind man, for several years now. After reading Mr. Pate's beautiful story, I can see where Rick got his deep roots in faith. Rick, I know you were always so happy to spend time your dad and know you will miss him so much. Sending prayers of comfort to you and all your family as you go through these difficult days. What a beautiful legacy your dad leaves with the rest of us!
