MITTIE ADELINE THORNTON
Mittie Adeline Thornton passed away at Prestige Assisted Living on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the age of 93. She was born in Henrietta, Texas on October 23, 1917 to Harry and Mary (Sacra) Tanner.
Mittie and her family moved from Rocky Ford, Colorado to Pueblo, Colorado after the death of her first husband in 1948. After marrying John Thornton they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she became secretary to the principal at Cheyenne Canon Elementary School for the next 15 years. Upon moving to Lake Havasu City she was secretary to the principal at Smoketree Elementary School from 1969 to 1972. Mittie became secretary at Havasupai Elementary School when it opened in 1972 until she retired in 1983. She remained active in her retirement enjoying water aerobics, walking, golf and traveling. Mittie was known at Prestige for the many hours she spent working jigsaw puzzles.
Mittie is survived by her two daughters Sandra Tabor and Nancy Clark (Keith); step-children Challie, Johnny and MLady; granddaughter Kristin Clark; grandson Brent Clark and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two brothers, two sister and late husbands James Taber and John Thornton.
She will greatly missed by family and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday September 2, 2011 at 10:00 am at the St. Michaels United Methodist Church.
