Ramon John Zasadil, Sr., 89, passed away on December 18, 2015 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was born to Jack and Margaret Zasadil on January 25, 1926 in Riverside, Illinois. He was wed to Beverly Bennett on December 30, 1945 in Elko, Nevada; they were married for 62 years.
Ray was a World War II Veteran. While waiting for battle on radio silence on the USS Spence in the Philippines, the ship was rolled over in a typhoon and sank. He survived for 3 days with no flotation device. Out of 297 crew members, he was one of the eleven survivors picked up.
Ray was a retired Police Sergeant from Alhambra Police Department. He was a rock hound and enjoyed boating, playing dominos, as well as making jewelry and custom fishing poles. He was a member of the Alhambra Mason Lodge #322.
Ray is survived by his sons, Ramon "John" Zasadil, Jr. (Michelle) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Russell Martin Zasadil (Emily) of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Thomas Emerson Zasadil (Sue) of Lake Havasu City, AZ; daughter, JoAnn Zasadil Jennings (Scott) of Corona, CA; daughter-in-law, Margaret Zasadil; 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Zasadil; parents, Joannes "Jack" Zasadil, Margaret Softley and son, Craig Zasadil.
A visitation will be from 1-3 pm on Saturday, January 9 followed by a funeral service at 3 pm at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
