Coping With The Loss Of A Pet
Friday, September 17, 2021
People with pets treat them like family. If a pet dies, dealing with the loss can be as tough as coping with the death of a human family member. Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home recognizes how grief-stricken and overwhelmed you can feel when you lose a pet.
Some Ways To Cope With The Loss Of A Pet
Coping with that loss isn’t easy. Here are some ways to manage that sorrow and get through this difficult time.
- As mentioned earlier, it can be devastating to lose a pest and many people in this situation isolate themselves during this time. Some others simply suppress their feelings but this is not a healthy way to deal with the grief. Allow yourself to recognize the loss you have suffered and grieve in the way you want. Both you and your pet deserve it.
- Only another doting pet parent can understand your grief so you should try contacting someone else who also has pets or has suffered a similar loss. They will be comforting, understanding, and compassionate. They will talk to you and offer some advice on dealing with your sorrow.
- You can also create a memorial in your loyal companion’s honor so you have something tangible to remember them. For example, you can plant a shrub in their memory in your backyard or create a small memorial space.
- Put together an album with photos of your pet.
You can do some of these things to heal and cope with the loss of a dear pet. The healing process will not be easy but sometimes, talking to someone who understands your loss can be the comfort you need. If you want to preplan a funeral, contact us at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
