The festive season is a time for fun, food and spending time with family and friends. But all this fades into insignificance when you have lost a loved one and his or her memories are still fresh in your mind. The holidays have a way of bringing feelings of grief and sorrow to the surface, even if your loved one has been gone for several years.

What you need to know is that parting from your loved one results in grief but their memories remain with you and are invaluable. If you try to channelize them you will be able to better manage your grief. Let us look at some things you can do to handle your grief around the holidays:

  • Decorating The Gravesite- Beautifying their gravesite is an expression of love and the special place the person has in your heart. When you lay a specially chosen wreath at the grave, it helps calm your mind and you will find that your grief recedes.
  • Memorial gifts- A gift given in memory of a loved one provides immense satisfaction bringing down the quotient of grief. You can give away some valuable things that belonged to your loved one or specially design gifts based on what the person liked. While you manage to do it in a way that would have pleased the departed, your grief will take a back seat.
  • Be In the Company of Friends and Loved Ones- The company of close family and good friends is like a medicine for depression. After the demise of a loved one, you may prefer loneliness. But being in the company of friends you value will help you get over the depression and negative thoughts and be in control of your emotions, especially during the holiday season.
