1. Dress appropriately

Women can wear sober black dresses while men can wear a black coat and trousers. Don’t wear loud and bright colors like red or yellow, and don’t wear casual clothing like jeans and a t-shirt as that can make you appear disrespectful.

2. Always arrive 10 to 20 minutes early

You need to be on time or arrive early for the funeral because appearing late is a sign of disrespect. Leave your home early enough to ensure you reach your destination 10 to 20 minutes before the funeral service is scheduled to start. If you’re late due to unexpected and unavoidable problems, slip into the funeral service quietly and sit at the back. This ensures you don’t cause any commotion or disrupt the grieving people at the funeral.

3. Switch the mobile phone off

The last thing you want is for your phone to ring during the funeral service. Keep your phone on silent or switch it off completely during the service. If you get a call during the service, don’t step out of the venue in the middle of it to attend to the call unless it’s very urgent as that can also be disrespectful.
