One of the scariest parts of the grief process is coming to the realization that a loved one is gone and worrying how you are going to remember them as time passes. The thought that you may forget aspects of them or who they were can be petrifying and cause you more sadness. When a loved one passes it can give you great comfort to keep their memory alive and whether you decide to do this immediately or after some time, we have come up with 7 great ways that you can choose to memorialize your loved ones.

1. Create A Photo Display

Whether it’s a scrapbook, pin board, photo collage or photo album, creating a display of your favorite memories, followed by a line or two will help you to remember all the little elements that made your loved one so special.

2. Start a Tradition

Something that becomes a yearly occurrence can serve as a reminder each year and also acts as a great way to get the family together in memory of those who passed. This could be something simple like visiting a favorite restaurant.

3. Do Something Charitable In Their Name

Depending on how your loved one passed you could opt to start a foundation or charity in their name. You could do something charitable that relates to your loved ones, for example if your loved one was a veteran you could volunteer at your nearest shelter, organize food for those who have fallen on hard times or write to those still serving overseas and send care packages.

4. Take A Special Trip

Once in a lifetime trips are an excellent way to preserve memories, even if you aren’t spreading ashes. They can combine a great experience with a sad one and provide positive memorialization of your loved one.

5. Jewelery

There are options to have ashes turned into jewelry or precious stones so that you can carry your loved ones with you day to day. Alternatively, if you have chosen a burial you can have your loved one’s name engraved on most pieces. Whether this is something they have left you or something you buy yourself, jewelry can be a beautiful reminder.
